What Can We Learn from 2 Months of Circuit Breaker?

As we come to the end of the Circuit Breaker period, some form of normalcy is expected to resume with many schools and offices set to open in the coming weeks. This news is of course welcomed and it’s possibly even necessary as you might be running out of things to do during this circuit breaker period. But while we look forward to getting our lives back to normal, it’s also good to take time to look back at these past 2 months.

Even though we may seem like we’re in ‘quarantine’ and constantly looking for things to do, it isn’t all that bad. If you look at the whole situation optimistically, this circuit breaker period presented us with quite a few opportunities.

Undoubtedly, the best thing about the circuit breaker period and working from home is the fact that you have a lot more spare time. There’s no need to travel to and from work, so that gives you an extra hour or two a day for you to spend however you’d like!

But it’s easy to just kick back and relax, and before you know it, the circuit breaker has ended. That’s why how you use this extra time is essential. Let’s take a look at what can be achieved and done during this time.

Upgrading Yourself

Self-improvement is extremely important in every stage of our lives. We have to constantly upgrade our skills to adapt to the ever-changing times to not be left behind. This is even more important now, in a world filled with uncertainties and recession looming.

These 2 months gave us no excuses to not improve ourselves. Upgrading ourselves can come in many forms. You can pick up a third language, go for work-relevant online courses or even just mastering an existing skill you have.

But if you’ve not picked up a new skill during the circuit breaker period, don’t worry. It’s still not too late to start now!

Remember, with more time, comes more responsibility. So use it wisely.

Reconnecting with Family

Like we mentioned, having more spare time is an amazing opportunity for us to do the things we’ve been neglecting. With our busy schedules, sometimes family bonding time can be hard to come by.

That’s where working from home during this period is so beneficial. You get to spend all your time with your family, so reconnecting and bonding with your loved ones is so much easier. Plus, the fact that there’s nowhere to go during this period helps with the bonding.

Plus, there’s also quite a limited amount of things to do and nowhere to go during the circuit breaker period, so you’re almost ‘forced’ to spend more time together with your family. In our eyes, this is a good thing!

Furthermore, for parents with young kids, this is an opportunity for you to teach and nurture your child’s studies and early childhood firsthand. This is something that might not have been possible due to long working hours or overlapping schedules.

But maybe your child won’t enjoy it as much as you do. You know, with having a parent around constantly watching over them…

It’s also a good time for you to give them an inside look at what you do, which in normal circumstances, might not have been possible.

Starting a Business

It might sound impossible to some, but starting your own business in 2 months is entirely possible.

Whether it is due to loss of income or simply using your spare time wisely, many Singaporeans have been able to kickstart their business ventures due to COVID-19. From baking cakes to cooking local delicacies and even making face masks, many businesses have taken a shot at being their own bosses!

Picking Up a Hobby

Outside of work, we all have our own passion and interests. You might have green fingers and enjoy a little gardening. Or maybe you’re into Legos but never found the time to complete that model you have chucked in your storeroom. Whatever your passion might be, the circuit breaker period gave you the opportunity to complete it.

And if you don’t have a hobby, you can finally pick one up too!

Get Fit

A healthy body is a healthy mind. Getting fit and eating healthy helps in concentration levels. This is extra important now that we’ve been working from home. We know how easy it is to get distracted from your daily work!

When you were busy with work, working out would be quite a chore. Exercising during lunch breaks has become quite common recently, but it’s also quite uncomfortable. And working out after work can be quite dreadful, especially after a long day in the office.

That’s where working from home changes everything! Working out before, during and even after work won’t be as painful. Additionally, as we’re only supposed to head out for essentials, working out offers an avenue for people to just get out of the house.

If you’ve been working out, we’re sure you’ve noticed that there are more people at the parks these days. Even our politicians are getting into that ‘fitspo’ life.

Circuit Breaker Offered Us…

In every crisis, there’s an opportunity.

For some, this opportunity presented itself as a life-changing business venture. For others, it might have been getting fit or upgrading themselves. Whatever you might have done or achieved during these 2 months, kudos!

As we bid farewell to the circuit breaker period, and welcome Phase 1 of Safe-Reopening, let’s grab every opportunity that comes to us with both hands and always look at the bright side of every situation.
