6 Types of Workshop Owners You Will Meet in Singapore
While working on the latest Carro Workshops App in the past month, we have come to a conclusion that people working at garages tend to behave similarly and can be grouped into 6 different types of workshop owners.
1) The Friendly ‘Ah Bang’ Workshop Owner
Welcoming and warm, these type of workshop owners will shake your hand when you enter, offers you food and drinks in a small waiting corner while his workers pamper your car. He will talk to you as if you were his child and asks about your day. This is the type of workshop owner you will want to meet for your car needs.
2) The “NO” Workshop Owner
He will add the same two letter word in front of his replies most of the time. Got discount? No discount. Got free car cloth? No free cloth. Can help me check…? No time. Can give me some advice on…? No advice. He likes to listen to the song “NO” by Megan Trainor. “My name is NO, My name is NO”.
3) The Pushover Workshop Owner
He will be afraid of customers with umbrellas. This type of workshop owner is often seen hiding in his office, behind his mechanics and always carries a shield for any potential umbrella attacks. You can simply raise your volume and all bargaining power will be your side. To deal with him, volume and umbrellas are your prime weapons.
4) The Car Boot(licker) Workshop Owner
Every time you enter his workshop, you feel like the most perfect person on earth. He compliments everything about you from head to toe even if you’re hungover and haven’t bathed in a week. (Ew.) He will be the ultimate confidence booster and your new best friend. His forté is to sugarcoat everything he says to you.
5) The “Show Off” Workshop Owner
He will dress up as the richest man in the industrial park. With slick-back hair, a shiny gold ring on his thumb and long pinky nail, he shakes his leg constantly and can be heard even before you see him. This type of workshop owner requires some bootlicking skills from you to get good deals out of him, be it in throwing in a free car wash or an extra bottle of car wax.
6) The “Bao Ka Liao” Workshop Owner
The best workshop owner you can hand your car to. He welcomes whatever problem you have with your car with open arms. Embracing car stalls and engine overhaul problems, his pet phrase is “No problem”. His personality is entirely opposite from the “NO” workshop owner and will solve whichever problem your car might have.
