Going fast with exotic cars, letting the multi-cylinder engine scream by reaching high rpm, and leaving a terrorizing sound path out of your exhaust is something that many drivers dream of but very few can afford. We bring to you a list of the top five performance cars Singaporean car enthusiasts will surely swoon over.

Performance Cars

While many people categorize sports cars and performance cars under the same umbrella, they’re actually quite different.

Sports cars can be defined as a small, usually two-seater, two-door car which is designed for performance and handling. Sports cars are usually luxurious vehicles that offer excellent handling and are light on the move. In terms of design, sports cars are shaped aerodynamically to enhance speed with a low centre of gravity.

But performance cars are designed and constructed specifically for speed. Performance cars are road vehicles, capable of providing transport. There is a great deal of overlap between performance cars and sports cars, but not all performance cars are sports cars, and not all sports cars are performance cars.

Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce

This is the fourth update of the Aventador series that was released in March 2015. The new update comes with an upgraded powertrain that boasts a staggering 750 horsepower produced by a 6.5L V12 engine. This is enough to take the exotic Lambo from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h.

The “superveloce” which means “super fast” in Italian delivers a torque of 690 Nm which is bridled by a sophisticated 7-speed ISR transmission. The 90 liters of the fuel tank will only last for about 540 kilometers, but that’s a small price to pay compared to the car’s $1.9 million price tag.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

If you prefer to go “classic” and choose the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, you won’t be disappointed. A 6.3L V12 produces the same power as the Aventador, but with better fuel consumption. However, the kerb weight is a bit higher, which impacts the Ferrari. But not by too much. The performance car completes a sprint in just 3.1 secs and reaching top speeds of 340 km/h.

The dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox that was taken directly out of F1 technology makes up for this minor performance loss, not to mention that the cost of acquisition is $1.5 million which is significantly lower than the Lambo.

3) McLaren 675 LT

McLaren is a pioneer in manufacturing performance cars, and with every new model, they are setting a new standard. The 675 LT isn’t an exception, as this highly specialized performance car will leave no enthusiast complaining.

It comes with a twin-turbocharged 32-valve 3.8L V8 which delivers 675 horsepower and an amazing 700 Nm of torque that allows a top speed of 330 km/h and a 0-100 at just 2.9 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive combined with the innovative pro-active chassis control system that is incorporated in the suspension takes the driving experience to a whole new level at the price of $1.475 million.

4) Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Mercedes’ approach to performance cars takes flesh and bones on the SL65 AMG which boasts a dizzying twin-turbocharged V12 6.0L motor. This beast produces 640 horsepower and 1000 Nm of sheer torque. If it wasn’t for the 2-ton weight and the electronic top speed limiter, the car would do better than the 4 secs for 0-100 and the 250 km/h of top speed, but hey you can’t say this is bad either.

After all, the price for this German-made performance car is not for everyone.

5) Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo S

If you’re a Porsche fan, then look no further than the latest Carrera Turbo S. As the name implies, this car utilizes a twin-turbocharged 3.8L 6V motor that feeds all four wheels with 580 hp of power. The performance car reaches up to 700 Nm, while the 0-100 is done in only 2.9 seconds.

The fuel consumption is the best compared to others in this list, with a rate of 11 km/L. Add the $870k price to all this, and you have a pretty clever option in every sense.
