Infiniti Q60 RedSport 400 3.0T Car Review

You know that feeling you get when you see your crush? The butterflies in your belly, the silly smiling, the pounding of your heart, the… you get the picture, right? Well, that’s how we felt when we first laid eyes on the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport. We’ll give praise where it’s due and Infiniti truly deserves it. The luxury automakers did a brilliant job with the Q60, she’s stunningly designed – both inside and out.

With an exceptionally built figure and an engine that boasts incredible numbers, the unpopularity of the Q60 baffles us. We genuinely feel that the Q60 deserves more attention and here’s why.

Designed to Perfection

The Infiniti Q60 is simply delightful. She’s visually stunning and embodies the perfect blend of sportiness and elegance. The Q60 is now lower and wider than the previous model, which beefs up the sportiness of the coupe. A well-sculpted body with sleek and defined lines make the Q60 a treat to the eyes.

Infiniti Q60 looks sleek and stylish

Despite oozing in sportiness, elegance, and style, the Q60 still maintains some much-needed aggressiveness. And no, we’re not talking about how she drives. With a large front grille sitting closer to the ground, you can feel the aggression just from looking at it.

We’re not alone in recognizing the Q60’s beauty. In 2017, The Infiniti Q60 bagged the prestigious iF Design Award, which was awarded under the ‘Automobile’ category. Conferred by the International Forum Design, the award is a highly sought after cross-industry product design prize.

In our honest opinion, the Q60 fully deserves the award and recognition.

Style & Substance Throughout

Stylish red adds some oomph in the Q60's interior design

When you think of a coupe, more often than not, you’d think that it’ll be an uncomfortable ride – especially for the passengers. But that’s where the Infiniti Q60 stands out the most. The Q60 guarantees a pleasant ride for everyone onboard. There’s plenty of legroom for passengers at the back, something you don’t usually see in a coupe. Additionally, the Q60’s trunk can carry up to 342 litres, more than enough for everyday use.

The cabin is generously wrapped in leather with some parts enjoying a matte and metallic finish. From the seats to the steering wheel and even some parts of the dashboard, the leather gives the cabin an added layer of class and comfort.

The Q60 comes with a dual-screen infotainment system, which can also be found in the Infiniti Q50. And just like our review of the Q50, the Q60’s infotainment system is disappointing. Which is really quite a waste because the cabin is designed to perfection, with the driver and his passengers in mind.

Exciting and Powerful Drive

The Q60's twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine that packs 400bhp and 470Nm of torque

Apart from the obvious visual appeal, the Q60 also moves like a beast. It’s exciting to just get in the driver’s seat and when you put your foot on the paddle, you get butterflies in your stomach. It’s an exciting experience, largely because you know how much power is at your mercy. The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine holds a massive 400hp at 6,400rpm and can complete a 100km sprint in just 5.4 seconds. So, what’s there not to get excited about?

If you’re like us and enjoy a car that’s noisy, you won’t be happy to hear that the Q60 isn’t. The coupe doesn’t have an overpowering noise through the revs. It’s pretty soft, without the loud banging that’s common in many continental cars. We personally enjoy the noise and attention that comes with it.

The Infiniti Q60 packs a punch under the hood

Handling this powerful machine might need some getting used to. Steering the beast feels light and sometimes, too easy. Which is mostly due to the direct adaptive steering (DAS). The lightness of the handling can sometimes make you forget that you’re actually driving a powerful machine. And we feel that it can be really dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced driver. But nevertheless, maneuvering corners and cruising through the city is such a joy and really easy.

Another concern we have is with the traction control. With so much power under the hood, the traction control is weak and really quite dangerous. There were many instances where the car would slip and skid when we pushed the car hard. Even though there are obvious dangers, we have to admit that it was also very fun.

Last Words

The Infiniti Q60 drives like a beast

When it comes to coupes, you’re unlikely to think about the Infiniti Q60. You’ll always think of a BMW, Audi or a Mercedes. And it’s usually because of one reason – the brand’s reputation. We understand that with people willing to buy such an expensive car, the price isn’t really the main factor.

But we think that the Infiniti Q60 deserves way more recognition. You’ll be getting way more for your buck, especially when it comes to performance. You won’t be able to get the same specifications that the Q60 offers from the other major continental brands. And that alone makes the Q60 deserving of your consideration.

With such a beautifully designed body, exquisite cabin and a beast under the hood – we can’t understand why you’d overlook this sexy machine.
